If I Start CrossFit, How Long Will I Really Hurt?

You won't hurt if you do it right. At least not much. At least at first.

I felt better immediately after my first workout and don't remember being sore at all until a few days later, when I got more adventuresome.

Even when I do have a few muscle aches, it feels good to move more freely and find muscles in places I had forgotten.

In CrossFit, you scale the workouts down to your level, even if your level is "unable to get up."

Here is what I have found:

If you will do 1) what you can, 2) where you are, then, you will almost immediately 3) feel better and very quickly 4) be able to do more.

If you add a little more as you go along you will be amazed at how well you feel, how much you more you can do, and, how much these expand the horizons of your life.

Remember to track your progress, either online or in a notebook. It will help you see your progress and learn from what is happening.

Happy living!

I may have to disagree on this one...I blew my quads out the during the first week and I could barely walk or sit down for at least 3 days! Now I'm so USED to being really sore that if I don't feel it, I feel like I haven't worked hard enough. Sick, huh! :)

LOL Caroline - I'm guessing you're not a gramma. :-) But welcome - I used to do that stuff, too. Now my ideas of "how much is enough" have moderated - a lot!

My guess is that if a gramma or such did a properly scaled workout they would get a glow similar to what I got and no serious delayed onset muscle soreness.

Thanks for stopping by. Would you like your name posted with a link as Friend of CF Grammas?

Hi! I'm not a grandma yet, but sure feel like one here lately. I'm so motivated after reading your blog! I can't wait to start xfit tomorrow with my 2 teenage daughters. I was SO worried about not being able to do anything, but now I see that anything is better than nothing, and if you don't start somewhere, you'll get nowhere. Mary

Mary! You just made this whole blog worth every minute I put into it. THANK YOU!!!

And you proved a point - it isn't about being a gramma so much as maybe just feeling like a gramma. ;-)

You, go girl! And remember not to try to do too much. You have nothing to prove but a life to take back.

I really hope you will come back and report in on how it goes.

Happy days!

I've had some pretty sore days, Delita, but the payoff is worth every ache and pain I experience along the way, and yes, your body will do things you never even knew it could do!

You can definitely post my name! My link is www.carolineworkout.wordpress.com

That is mjy xfit journal. :) No, I'm not a "gramma" but I'm out of shape and recovering from my 3rd knee surgery that took place in December. :) That should count for something!!!

Theresa, yes. Mostly I relish muscle soreness because it is like *feeling* the progress I'm making. ;-) Not a bad feeling at all. Thanks!
